Business

Welcome to the TrimOut blog

Why I am doing this

I have sold a job at nine in the morning and still been in Composer at midnight the same day. That is the trade, if you are honest about it. One person does the sales, the design, the programming, the install, the service calls, and the billing. Nobody tells you up front that the programming alone can eat a full day, every house.

This blog is the notebook I wish I had when I started. One idea a week. Not a newsletter full of links, not a roundup of industry news, not fifty tips stacked into one post nobody finishes.

What you will find here

Some weeks it will be about pricing a job so the customer sees the value before you say a number. Some weeks it will be about getting a change order signed before you ever touch a house you already finished. Some weeks it will be a shortcut that saved an hour on a job I would rather forget.

The rule I hold myself to

No padded advice that could apply to any business anywhere. No stat pulled out of thin air. If a post does not come from a real job, it does not get written.

Who this is for

Dealers who still answer their own phone, still drive to their own jobs, and still open Composer themselves more nights than they would like. If that is you, this is written for you. It does not matter if your shop is one truck or five, the part of the job that eats your evening is the same part.

A new post lands here every week. Read one, use the one idea, get back to the job. That is the whole pitch. No long series to keep up with, no course to buy into, just one thing that helped, week after week.

Run your next job through it.

Bring a proposal, or bring a walk-through.

Let's get started
